Native with Edibles

This garden was built for a retired couple with a phenomenal amount of energy and zest for life. They had already taken on board the ideas of sustainable gardens, and also wanted to grow both fruit and vegetables. The result is a garden with two quiet seating areas - one for the morning and one for the afternoon. The main garden is planted with drought tolerant, mainly native plants. A dry creek emptying into a large infiltration area manages the run-off from the roof while contouring keeps water on the property. Raised vegetable and herb beds and an espaliered walk of fruit trees maximize the productive potential.
